Safe e-Banking Education
Let us help you not become a victim of internet fraud. Of course, we know there is no guarantee of never becoming a victim, but together we can fight to protect against it. Please use this information and do not hesitate to call us if you have any questions or concerns.
User ID and Password
Create a “strong” password with at least 8 characters that include a combination of mixed case letters and numbers. Change your password frequently. Community Bank & Trust Online Banking and Mobile Banking will automatically require you to change your password every 90 days. Never share username and password information with third-party providers.
Think before you react. Most spam, viruses and fraudulent emails stress urgency and strongly suggest acting now. Don’t become a victim, avoiding clicking links, responding to unsolicited emails and providing personal information is your defense!
Protecting Online Payments and Account Data
When you have completed a transaction, ensure you log off to close the connection. Reconcile by carefully monitoring account activity and reviewing all transactions initiated by you or your company on a daily basis. Do not use account numbers, your social security number, or other accounts or personal information when creating account nickname or other titles.
Avoiding Phishing, Spy-Ware and Malware
- Do not open email from unknown sources. Be suspicious of emails purporting to be from a financial institution, government department, or other agency requesting account information, account verification, or banking access credentials such as usernames, passwords, PINs codes, and similar information.
- Opening file attachments or clicking on web links in suspicious emails could expose your system to malicious code that could hijack your computer or mobile device.
- Never leave a computer or mobile device unattended while using your online banking.
- Install anti-virus and spyware detection software on all devices. Free software may not provide protection against the latest threats compared with an industry standard product. Keep your computer and mobile device updated with the latest versions and patches of both anti-virus and anti-spyware software.
- Do not use public or other unsecured computers for logging on to your online banking.
- Never conduct banking transactions while multiple browsers are open on your computer.
